Spring
has sprung and Earth Day is around the corner, which can only mean that the 13th
Annual May River Cleanup and Earth Day Celebration are quickly approaching!
This year’s events are brought to you by the Town of Bluffton,
Experience Green and Carson Cottages with the
support of many partners.
To
celebrate both, please SAVE THE DATE of SATURDAY, APRIL 27th, 2013!
Plan
to bring your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to the May River
Cleanup at the Oyster Factory Park from 9AM to 12PM to clean
our beloved May River and the streets and coves leading to the river. If you
have a boat or kayak, we NEED YOUR HELP to gather trash! Thanks to Marshgrass Adventures and Outside Hilton
Head, we will have some additional kayaks available for use on a
first-come, first-served basis.
The
Town is proud to be one of 18 national recipients of a “Think Green” grant from
Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful.
With their support, as well as support from Palmetto
Pride and Keep
Beaufort County Beautiful, all supplies will be provided. And Island Crossing Starbucks is
providing coffee! You just need to wear boots or waders to clean along the
marsh, or sturdy shoes to clean roadside. If you have any other questions, please call Kim Jones at 843.706-4593 or email at kjones@townofbluffton.com.
Volunteers
can then enjoy a fantastic environmental education fair on site with student
research displays from the University of South
Carolina Beaufort – Gateway Campus, Beaufort
County Recycles, Beaufort
Conservation District, Coastal
Discovery Museum’s Sea Turtle Protection Project, McCracken
Middle School horseshoe crab research, Beaufort County Open Land Trust, Friends of Bluffton Dog Parks, Carolina Clear, and Together
for Beaufort.
Volunteers
can keep enjoying the festivities by taking a short stroll to the Carson
Cottages on Calhoun Street for a FREE LUNCH as our way of saying
“thank you” for your participation! Experience Green has organized a Green
Expo Earth Day Celebration from 11AM to 4PM with great exhibits, vendors
and family-friendly activities for all to enjoy. To help volunteer at the Earth
Day Celebration, please contact Carl Conklin at 843.681.9100 or cconklin@cf-lowcountry.org.
