14th Annual May River Cleanup and Earth Day Celebration - April 26, 2014

With summer on the horizon, it’s time for the 14th Annual May River Cleanup and Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 26th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Oyster Factory Park at the end of Wharf Street in the heart of Bluffton. Volunteers are invited to arrive 15 minutes early to enjoy breakfast muffins and coffee provided by Signe’s Bakery, the Rotary Club of Bluffton and Starbucks.

To make it successful the event needs boaters and kayakers. If you are willing to volunteer with your boat or kayak, we ask you arrive by 8:30 A.M. to ensure traffic is minimal when pedestrian volunteers arrive. Additional kayaks will be provided by Marshgrass Adventures and Outside Hilton Head. If you are a volunteer interested in taking out a kayak, please take the time to contact Beth Lewis at (843) 706-4559 or blewis@townofbluffton.com and make a reservation prior to the event as kayaks are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All supplies including gloves, bags, sunscreen, bug spray, and water will be provided by partners in the event including the Town of Bluffton’s Neighbors for Clean Water, Waste Management, Keep Beaufort County Beautiful, Beaufort County Recycles, and Palmetto Pride.

Through a collaborative effort, Experience Green will be hosting the 4th Annual Earth Day Celebration, from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. This event will be within walking distance of the May River Cleanup, in historic Old Town Bluffton. May River Cleanup volunteers will receive a free give-away at the event. This year’s celebration will host crafts for kids, music, delicacies from local farmers, kayak and boating tours, and exhibits from local environmental organizations.

We invite volunteers to come out again this year, do a little work, get a little dirty, and know that you’ve accomplished something great for our community and the environment to make Bluffton the Heart of the Lowcountry.
