The Town of Bluffton had a great time building these scaled-down versions of the May River watershed with MC Riley 5th graders today.
Students had to design & construct their communities with roads, parking lots, houses, and farms. Then students sprinkled pollutants (i.e. brown, orange, and green pudding mix) onto their landscapes and simulated a rain storm with spray bottles.
They were given the opportunity to remediate some of the pollution with sponges acting as wetlands. Students also discussed how they can personally reduce the amount of pollution reaching the river.
We'll be going back to do this project again with the rest of the 5th grade class. Thank you to the students and teachers for making this so much fun!
